Karachi, Dec 28: The government has agreed to finance, through budget funding, the Rs13.349 billion Karachi Electric Supply corporation action plan aimed at bringing about improvement in electricity transmission and distribution system.

This was stated by the KESC managing director Brig. Tariq Saddozai at 92nd annual general meeting, which was attended by the members of KESC board of directors and other high ranking government officers.

“Under the plan Rs750 million would be spent on restoration of generation capacity and Rs5, 999 million on stability of transmission system. Eleven new grid stations would be established in new areas and where the system is overloaded,” he added.

He further said that Rs2,400 million would be used for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system to modernize the load dispatch centre, which ensures smooth supply of electricity throughout the city. “While Rs4, 200 million would be used for implementing theft reduction schemes,” he said.

He said that 64 per cent consumers were paying the bills regularly as compared to 48 per cent previously. “While revenue recovery ratio has also increased from 70pc to 95 per cent.”—PPI
