KARACHI, Sept 4: The United States will give another four million dollars to the Pakistan government for rehabilitating around 450 schools which were damaged by floods in four districts of southern Sindh.

Sindh’s education secretary, Mukhtiar Hussain Soomro, and the deputy mission director of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Edward Birgells, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Tuesday. The provincial education minister was present at the occasion.

Schools in four southern districts of Sindh - Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Umerkot and Tando Allahyar – will be restored under the project. The education department is working to identify the schools in need of repairs.

Sindh Education Minister Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq appreciated the USAID for consistently providing aid and announced that the provincial government’s Sindh Basic Education Programme has been approved by the Executive Committee of National Economic Council.—APP/PPI
