KARACHI, Aug 26: A policeman was gunned down in Lyari on Sunday night, police said.
They said the incident took place near Khadda Market where constable Muzaffar Iqbal was shot at by suspects riding a motorcycle.
The victim was rushed to the Civil Hospital Karachi, where he died during treatment.
The police said the victim was posted at the Baghdadi police station and was on duty when shot.
‘Bandit’ killed in encounter
A suspected bandit was killed and his wounded accomplice arrested while their third associate escaped during an encounter with police within the remit of the Boat Basin police station on Sunday, police said.
They added that two policemen were also wounded in the exchange of fire.
SP of Clifton Dr Furrukh Ali said that the encounter took place in Shireen Jinnah Colony where a police party on patrol tried to intercept some suspects on a motorcycle, but the suspects attempted to flee and opened fire on the police near Ziauddin Hospital.
The police returned fire in which one of the suspects was killed.
The police said that identities of the bandits could not be ascertained immediately as the wounded bandit was unconscious.
