KOHAT, Aug 24: Pesco has disconnected electricity supply to nine Afghan refugee camps due to non-payment of outstanding dues amounting to over Rs61 million.

The SDO, Pesco rural sub-division, Altaf Hussain, in a statement on Friday said that there was an amount of Rs15.376 million outstanding against the refugees. Pesco had been warning the inmates of the camps to clear the dues but they did not pay any heed.

Electricity supply was disconnected to Khan Wali, Malik Ali Shah, Malang Khan, Wakil Shahu, Shah Ghasi, Said Wali, Engineer Hashim, Bismillah and Baghicha Gul camps. The action was taken on the directives of the XEN Pesco, Kohat.

The SDO said that the action was part of the recovery campaign launched on the orders of the chief executive Pesco across the province.

SHOT DEAD: Two brothers were killed over an old enmity in Chargahri area on Rawalpindi road on Friday.

The staff of Saddar police station said two brothers Said Alam and Najab were outside their house when their opponents Bahadar, Dilawar and three armed men opened indiscriminate fire at them.

They died instantly. Their bodies were shifted to KDA hospital. Later, they were handed over to their family.

The concerned SHO along with a team of investigators reached at the site of the incident and recorded statements of eyewitnesses and the family members. The police said the victims were IDPs and had been residing in Kohat for last few years.

UNFULFILLED PROMISE: The Parachinar Reforms Committee has reminded the government of its unfulfilled promise of rehabilitating 550 affected families of 2007 sectarian clashes.

The concern was expressed at a meeting of the affected families presided over by Haji Sawab Gul on Friday.

The participants said they were living in rented houses in Kohat and other districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, adding sometimes they and their children slept without having food.

They urged the government to stop doing politics over their rehabilitation and help them sincerely. The elders said they were unable to support their families and educate their children due to non-availability of financial assistance.

They also demanded inclusion of their names in the survey report of the property damage.
