Governor urges unity

PESHAWAR, Aug 19: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Barrister Masood Kausar has said that the basic concept of fasting which stresses steadfastness, devotion and courage in following the divine lines towards fulfilment of social and civic responsibilities.

In Eidul Fitr message issued here on Sunday, he said that since they were still in the process of reconstruction and rehabilitation in wake of the disasters caused by extremism and terrorism, the need for strengthening the bonds of brotherhood, unity and consciousness for ensuring peace and security and better future had become all the more important.

He said that Eidul Fitr marked culmination of Ramazan and brought with it festivities for the faithful to celebrate the rewards they had reaped while fasting, fulfiling their religious obligations and being kind and benevolent to fellow humans.

“I urge Pakistanis in general and the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Fata in particular to work tirelessly for a secure and prosperous future for the coming generations and assure them of all my, and the government’s, support,” he said. —Bureau Report

Water shortage in Abbottabad

ABBOTTABAD, Aug 19: Due to negligence of the TMA water staff, the city is witnessing acute water shortage for the last 10 days. The most badly hit areas are Kehal, Kunj, Karim Pura and Malik Pura.

It has been learnt that water pumping machine at the main storage tank at Band Khoo is out of order for the last six days and no effort has been made by the TMA for the repair of machinery while TMA staff is making lame excuse of electricity loadshedding.

The matter was also brought into the notice of in charge of TMA water section but to no avail. The Abbottabad DCO has been also approached to resolve the problem and he has assured early repair of the machine. —Correspondent

Dir security

UPPER DIR, Aug 19: A strong police force comprising 1,100 personnel has been deployed in the city as part of the security plan for Eidul Fitr.

District Police Officer Ihsanullah Khan told Dawn that security for Eidul Fitr had been beefed up to ensure that no untoward incident took place during the festival.

He said checkpoints had been established at different entry and exit points of the city where the travellers would be registered.

He said that the police officials would be deployed at prominent points in different towns and villages to ensure a foolproof security.

It may be mentioned here that the people in Upper Dir will celebrate Eid on Monday along with rest of the country. The DPO said that inspectors and sub-inspectors had been directed to supervise security in their respective jurisdictions.

He added that police patrol teams had been deployed on the main road from Akhagram all the way to Lowari Top and on all link roads.—Correspondent
