CHARSADDA, Aug 13: A polio case has been detected in Takya Korona Muftiabad area on the outskirts of Charsadda city.

District health communication officer Mohammad Yasir told Dawn on Monday that the polio sufferer was 19-month-old girl Safeena, who belonged to Dir district and currently lived in Takya Korona Muftiabad area with her family.

He said the girl was vaccinated against polio 15 times.

Mr Yasir said the relevant authorities would discuss the matter on Aug 16.

Also during the early hours of the day, a man was injured after an improvised explosive device exploded at the entrance of the Shabqadar courts.

Police said Jan Muhammad, a passerby, was injured in the blast, which partially damaged the gate, shops and lawyer chambers.

They said the device weighed around a kilogramme. Police later registered an FIR against unidentified people for terrorism.

Meanwhile, leaders of political parties in Tangi area on Monday complained excessive loadshedding, low voltage, tripping and overbilling and demanded early corrective measures.

Those who attended the meeting included PPP-Sherpao’s Khurshid Khan, Jamaat-i-Islami’s Kifayatullah, Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf’s Safiullah, Pakhtunkhwa Mili Awami Party’s Fahim Khan, PPP’s Lal Saeed, Awami Khidmat Committee’s Haji Siraj and Teacher Association’s Mian Sajid.
