KARACHI, Aug 12: An activist of the Sunni Tehreek was gunned down in a New Karachi locality on Sunday. Police said Mohammad Arif, 30, was passing through the area near Power House Chowrangi on his motorcycle within the remit of the Bilal Colony police station when armed men targeted him.

The victim suffered multiple bullet wounds and was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he died during treatment.

A spokesman for the ST said that Hafiz Mohammad Arif Qadri, a resident of New Karachi, was going home when unknown terrorists shot him dead. He said that the slain worker was the sector in charge of Ranchore Line of the ST’s organisational structure.

He condemned the killing and called upon the authorities to arrest the terrorists forthwith.

However, the police were not sure about the exact motive behind the killing.

Following the killing of the ST activist, tension gripped the old city area where shops and markets were closed.
