ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Supreme Court will hear an appeal on Aug 15 for a review of its July 12 order asking the prime minister to write to Swiss authorities for reopening graft cases against President Asif Ali Zardari, DawnNews reported.

The appeal against the apex court’s order was filed by Attorney General Irfan Qadir on behalf of the government earlier this week.

A five-member bench of the court, headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, would hear the appeal against its earlier order in the NRO implementation case. The bench also includes Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani, Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, Justice Gulzar Ahmed, and Justice Ather Saeed.

Four out of the five judges on the bench were also on the five-member bench that had issued the July 12 order.

The appeal, filed on Wednesday Aug 8, requested the court to review its order in which Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf had been directed to submit an implementation report with respect to writing the contentious letter to Swiss authorities.

“Adjourned to July 25 on which date the Prime Minister of Pakistan/Chief Executive of the Federation shall cause a report to be submitted before this court regarding compliance of the directions contained in paragraph No. 177 and 178 (writing the letter to Swiss authorities) of the judgment passed by this court in case of Dr Mobashir Hassan (NRO case) failing which this court may initiate any appropriate action under the Constitution,” the order issued by the five-judge bench on July 12 had stated.
