CHINIOT, Aug 4: A medium flood warning was issued to 60 villages on Saturday as 100,000 cusec water will flow the Chenab at Chiniot on Monday (tomorrow) at 10am.

About 150,000 cusec water has been discharged at Marala point which is likely to reach Chiniot on Monday and its intensity will be about 100,000 cusec.

A meeting was held under chairmanship of DCO Dr Irshad Ahmad to review the flood situation in the district. Irrigation Executive Engineer Shakeel Ahmad, SDO Raja Sarfraz and Sub-engineer Mohammad Anwar briefed the participants about the flood situation and condition of different embankments.

The DCO directed all respective departments, including health; veterinary and revenue, to take all possible steps to cope with flood situation in tehsil Chiniot and Bhowana. It was also decided that people living in low-lying areas across the Chenab would be asked to vacate houses early on Monday.

NARCOTICS: Narcotics were seized on Saturday.

An excise and taxation team, led by District Officer Mubashar Riaz, nabbed five drug peddlers. The arrested have been identified as Mohammad Nawaz of Qaziwala (six kg heroin), Saifullah (520 gram heroin), Mohammad Imran (150 gram), Sajid Ali (1.5 kilo) and Zaheer Ahmad (250 gram heroin).

PROBE: District Police Officer Rana Shahzad Akbar has ordered a probe into alleged torture and chaining of a prisoner at private torture cell by Bhowana police.

According to a police handout, Sajid Husain Hanjra of Chak No. 466 JB was nominated in case No. 373/12 for stealing gold and valuables from house of Amir Shahzad. Police arrested him completing formalities and Investigation Officer Mohammad Ishaq detained him at his quarter due to non-availability of handcuffs in police station. When he was about to be produced in court, someone made a footage. However, he was presented to local magistrate who asked about torture and Sajid denied, the handout claimed.

Later on, he was shifted to Jhang district jail.

The DPO said: “The Bhowana circle DSP has been appointed as inquiry officer. If any official was found guilty of torture, he would be taken to task.”
