LAHORE: The Punjab Safe Cities Authority’s (PSCA) initiative – Meri Pehchan – has led to solving a murder case of a man whose body was found in a field in Manawan police area here on Tuesday.

The PSCA had been informed about the unclaimed body through a call on police helpline 15. It was one of the 5,000 unclaimed bodies which Meri Pehchan initiative has identified through advanced biometric technology.

A spokesperson for the PSCA says that the primary goal of the initiative is to identify missing, vulnerable individuals and unidentified bodies across Punjab, using biometric technology.

He says that following the 15 helpline call, a team reached the location and initiated the identification process through biometric fingerprint verification. He says the team established the identity of the deceased, Robin Masih, providing vital assistance to the investigation police.

He says the preliminary information suggested that Robin was allegedly murdered in the name of ‘honour’, adding that the police concerned arrested the suspect and registered a case. The body will be handed over to the victim’s family after completion of legal formalities.

He says the initiative has played a vital role in assisting law enforcement agencies in identifying missing individuals and deceased persons, helping their families locate them. He adds that arrangements for the last rites of the deceased persons are also made under the initiative.

Meri Pehchan teams regularly visit hospitals, mortuaries and old-age homes across Punjab to facilitate identification of individuals and unclaimed bodies.

The NADRA-linked biometric system enables fingerprint verification, strengthening identification process, the spokesperson says.
