LAHORE, Aug 1: A 15-year-old servant died of alleged torture by his master’s family in G-4, Johar Town, early on Wednesday.

Quoting initial autopsy findings, a Nawab Town police official said Qasim, son of Nazim Ali of Nankana, had been working at Dr Shakeel’s house for the last three months.

The official told Dawn Dr Shakeel’s family transported Qasim’s body to Syadwala in Nankana by an ambulance early in the morning and told his parents that he died of natural causes.

Qasim’s family found torture marks on his body, shifted it to Lahore and alerted the police. He said Dr Shakeel’s son-in-law Umer Khan and relative Sabir Khan were nominated in the FIR. Police arrested Sabir, who accompanied Qasim’s body to Nankana.

The source said the autopsy doctor confirmed marks of torture on the body.

FIRE: Valuables worth hundreds of thousands were gutted in three fire incidents in the provincial capital on Wednesday.

A fire broke out in a towel factory situated at Gajjumatta, burning down valuables worth hundreds of thousands. Fire-fighting was continuing till the filing of this report at 9:30pm.

Another fire broke out in a house in Ravi Block of Iqbal Town, burning down valuables.

Rescue 1122 said the apparent cause of blaze in both incidents was a short circuit.

A wood godown caught fire in Bhagatpura locality of Shadbagh, gutting wood worth hundreds of thousands.
