I am wondering if our coaches use stop watches during practice. Before sending our swimmers to these events, they should make sure that athe time taken by our participants is at least matching the first three winners of the last olympics in the category which are practicing. Any fraction of second below means no need to send them in the event. What a wasted of money.

Economical performance doesn't matter much for winning a medal, or else North Korea which is considered as a Pareiah by the world community would not be placed number four in the medals table!!! also many tiny countries, or poor countries from Africa have won medals, for any performance it's in the hands of awam and how they conduct them in society - we have an tenancy to blame outsiders for our failure - unless and until we change our-self we are never going to win any medals...

Sport performance is based on countries economical performance. Occasionally you will find one or twwo e case where a God gifted person from a third world country ends up winning a Gold Medal. Every segment of our country is run by unprofessional political assignments and Sports is no exception. Things will change as the political structure of Pakistan changes and the good news is the change is coming to Pakistan. Yes, I believe in it and next election will bring a lot better leadership for Pakistan.

Look at Kenya, Ethopia, Jamica whose economy is far poor as compared to India and Pakistan but they have work class athletes who not only participate but are also winners some with World Records.

Your first sentence isn't entirely true, because there are many "rich" middle eastern/arab countries with a poor record in sports. I think in a lot of countries, sports just doesn't get the emphasis.

We all wish, the new leadership will come, but unfortunately our country is full of corrupt politicians who will do anything to make sure change will not happen. It has been seen in Multan who and how he won.

We have so much tallent in this country,one example is cricket.But what happens,we cant invite any country,we cant have international competetions,they are attacked.We have to change the mentality and thinking of people.So that we can promote sports and healthy thinking.we were able to get more medals 30 yrs ago.Now we can not think of it.Why,because . Everybody knows .Things needs to be changed.

Sports start at school then college then university's . a national goal should be set up to win medals. a 4 year 8 year plan should be made . Both physical and mental practices should be taught ,winning gold should be inculcated in every sportsperson . shooting has 15 events so so 45 medals , just think, All cadet colleges should have yearly competitions in the shooting on the Olympics style , then there are so many events, sailing, and on and on. we need a very strong desire to excel then only will we get medals

Sport performance is based on human's desire to win a gold metal. Not a country. Think Jamaica. A poor country with some of the most talented sprinters of all time. Think keny. A poor country with the greatest long distance runners of all time.

Political climate and government's performance is of course not helpful but in case of sports and atheletics, a lot depends upon personal hardwork and ambitions. Individuals have to be trained and focused in achieving excellence. That can come from teachers, parents and peers. Please do not blame government for every individual's shortcomings.

Without regular traning for at least six months prior to big event, one cannot reach close to getting medals. I never heard the names of guys who made exit in first round.

Our focus has only been on few sports, however rest have never been recognised and never promoting. Sport is excelled when good competetion comes and that we lack. Whoever these sportsmen are, they are limited to a small competetion thus less level of excell. If we have to improve our performance in such events then we need to first develop facilities and academies for such sports and then slowly people from all over would joing them. Would take time.

If we want to do well in sports (I believe pakistan can be a sports power) then we have to develop a culture where recreation is encouraged for fun and developing positive attitude and good life skills. If we do that then the law of probability will guarantee that we will find world class performers. Reading the reports and comments in different newspapers .. you can see that most of the comments are negetive. Israr by overcoming odds and giving his 100% deserves our appreciation of representing us with dignity... main thing is the desire to continually improve and have enough number of people taking different sports as their hobby. Building good society should be the objective, getting world champions will be the bonus. In US the young swimmers are discouraged to make Olympics as their aim, they are only coached to work hard and make continuous improvements. Khan, we need to use this isolation as an opportunity instead of complaining about it. This is the opportunity for us to develop local competition structure and actively supports it and be self sufficient. That will widen the base for not just players but also for fans, local economy, sports industry etc. Many countries regards international events as less important than the local events, and you see that they are ones who dominate the international events.

to win gold you need to be strong minded and nationalist to the core, a situation of do or die. its ok wining at home but the physical endurance and stamina of international players is just amazing - 12 hours a day training up at 5.00AM. If our olympians do not match the training strategies of squash players like Jang Khans,,Janshiir Khans ...you can forget medals. A bootcamp with PAK ARMY or SGS is a must for all our players..

If thats the case,how come countries like Ethiopia and Kenya get more medals than the Middle Eastern countries where the streets are literally paved with gold??

by the way India manage to win bronze medal in 10m rifle this time,last time we won gold in same event and we are not very rich country.Don't blame each time on government.In countries like India and Pakistan if we want to win medals in Olympics we can't depend on government as you know better.

I do not completely agree with you you are right about human desire to win the medal but have you ever seen the sport facilities in Pakistan and the level of corruption and dirty polictics every where. no doubt that Paksitan have the best talent in the world but the gold is worth more if polished and designed in a certain way.

The poor performance of Pakistan`s sportsmen and sports women is a reflection of the poor performance of the country in every field.

We should stop sending our athletes on wild card entries just for the sake of sightseeing and so called international exposure as their performance is absolutely embarrassing for the whole nation. Its a shame that in population of more than 16 million people, we are unable to produce any good sportsmen other than in cricket, its 70 % fault of our governments/systems and 30% of the society where a kid is never encouraged to take part in sporting activities from an early age We can take first step from today by making it mandatory for all private and public schools to hold proper sporting events throughout the year not just the show pony one off sports day.
