PESHAWAR, Dec 19: National Awami Party Pakistan has flayed the statement of Jamaat-i-Islami chief Qazi Hussain Ahmad in which he proposed to declare Urdu as the medium of instruction in public sector schools and offices in the NWFP.

In a press release, the party’s provincial information secretary, Zar Khan Musazai, said people had given mandate to the JI chief in the elections to protect their rights and not to deprive them of their mother tongue.

He said the MMA had bagged votes for its stand on the United States-led war on terrorism in Afghanistan.

He said the MMA leadership should not adopt policies against the wishes of the people.

He said the adoption of Urdu as the medium of instruction would not solve the people’s problems and added that the MMA should take initiatives to pronounce Pashto as the medium of instruction in schools and colleges.
