HYDERABAD, July 21: Some families of the Hindu community held a demonstration outside the press club here on Saturday in protest against the alleged occupation of their properties by influential persons in their village near Hala.

The protesters, including women and children, alleged that landlords harassed and tortured Hindus to force them to sell their land which they had inherited from their ancestors.

They said that some people had occupied a few houses of Hindus in the village of Khandu-Salaru near Hala.

They said they earned their livelihood by working on agricultural land.

They said that some people armed with axes had attacked their village a few days ago and injured three people seriously who had been admitted to the Civil Hospital of Hyderabad. Many women and children received minor injuries.

They said influential people threatened to kill them if they did not leave the village.

They demanded of the government to provide protection to them.

SRTC workers: Scores of workers of the defunct Sindh Road Transport Corporation held a demonstration outside the press club in protest against non-payment of their dues.

Haji Ghulam Mohammad, president of the action committee of workers of the defunct SRTC, said they had been fighting for their right for over 12 years, but the successive governments were reluctant to clear their dues.
