KOHAT, July 11: Kohat police arrested 24 suspicious persons and seized arms and ammunition from their possession during search operation in various parts of the district on Wednesday.

Officials said that the operation was conducted by elite force personnel in the jurisdiction of Gumbat, Junglekhel, city and Lachi police stations.

They said that the raiding teams arrested 24 suspicious persons and recovered illegal weapons from their possession.

The seizure included one repeater, one Kalashnikov, one rifle, three shotguns, 11 pistols, 10 chargers and one and a half kilogrammes of hashish.

The accused were sent to prison by a local court after police registered criminal cases against them in respective police stations.

Meanwhile, unidentified armed men deprived a family of cash and other valuables in Ambar Banda in cantonment police station limits here on Wednesday.

One Imran told police that seven armed men barged into his house, locked family members in a room and took away mobile phones, weapons and Rs250,000 cash. The Cantt police have registered a case against unidentified accused.

In Ustarzai area, police seized 96 kilogrammes of hashish being smuggled from tribal area to down country and arrested three carriers on Wednesday.

Ustarzai police said that the accused, including Kamil Hussain, Rehman and Farooq, had been put behind bars after registration of case against them.
