I WOULD like to bring into notice of the authorities concerned issues related to the issuance of number plates at the time of registration of a new vehicle. I got my car registered in May and got a temporary plate with a stamp affixed on my challan ‘number plate not issued.’

Since then, during my daily commute to work and back, I have been stopped a number of times by incompetent policemen who do not understand this clause, like many others.

They argue with me on the point that number plate issuance is my headache and not the ETOs. Knowing that they are on a weak footing, figuratively and literarily, their agenda is only extortion. I have yet to give in.

I request the higher ups of both police and excise departments to look into the matter. The police need to be aware of the current scenario and the excise department needs to pull up its socks and sort the number plate issuance matter.

My registration series is AXM and I have been told that so far even AXA has not been issued the original plates.
