KARACHI, Dec 16: Sindh government has devolved all the powers and responsibilities of Karachi Water and Sewerage Board upon the newly-created department of Water and Sanitation under the City District Government.

According to a notification issued here on Monday and came into force at once, the managing director of the now defunct KW&SB will henceforth act as the executive district officer (EDO), Water and Sanitation, under the district coordination officer of the city government.

The new department has been created under section 14 and 37 of the Sindh Local Government Ordinance 2001.

MTC: Through another notification, the provincial government has given the Mass Transit Cell under the control of the city government. Till now, the MTC had been working under the provincial transport department.

After its merger with the city government, the cell will now function under the Director General of Mass Transit, City Government. The staff, furniture, offices and record of the cell have already been transferred to city government.—APP/PPI
