RAWALPINDI, Dec 14: The additional district and sessions judge, Mohammad Sarwar Sidhu, on Saturday awarded death sentences on two counts each to two persons convicted of murdering a businessman and committing robberies.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs100,000 each on the convicts, Mursal Kazmi and Ghulam Ismail. The convicts were booked by Waris Khan police for murdering a businessman, Sheikh Rizwan, before taking away his car.

Both the accused were earlier acquitted by an anti-terrorist court for allegedly killing a police constable.

The convicts were also involved in some other robbery cases, while some valuables had also been recovered from their possession.

The same court rejected the bail application of two accused, Suhail Malik and Shamroz Khan, involved in different brawl cases.

Meanwhile, judicial magistrate Abbas Raza Gilani remanded 19 people, including four students, in custody.

They were arrested by the New Town police for alleged involvement in gambling at a snooker club.

The civil judge, Hidayatullah Shah, withheld the salary of a sub-inspector and investigation officer of Westridge police, Maroof, for not presenting a challan in a case. The court directed the district account officer to withheld the salary of the officer.

The same court accepted the bail application of two persons, Mazhar and Arif, who were arrested by Waris Khan police for allegedly possessing five bottle of wine each, after they submitted surety bonds of Rs30,000 each.

The additional district and sessions judge, Mohammad Azam Mian, rejected the bail before arrest application of a person, Mohammad Jamil, allegedly involved in a Hudood case.
