MITHI, June 12: Listeners in Thar and the adjoining districts are unable to listen to FM radio programmes following a fault in a transmitter.

According to sources privy to the Mithi radio station, the transmitter developed a fault a few weeks ago. It has not been repaired yet, depriving thousands of listeners of radio programmes.

Mithi radio station was established in two small rooms of an office in Revenue Colony in 2007. But the authorities concerned did not take any step for its upkeep and repair of the building after it was severely damaged in the heavy rains of last year.

The building is in a dilapidated condition, posing danger to costly machinery and equipment.

Radio listeners have urged the Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation authorities to ensure repair of the transmitter, shifting of the radio station to some other building and starting its programmes through medium wave frequency.—Correspondent
