KARACHI, June 7: A young man said to be a member of the Tableeghi Jamaat was shot dead by gunmen in Azizabad on Thursday, police said.

They said that 26-year-old Adnan Zaib was shot dead in an Ayesha Manzil locality within the remit of the Azizabad police station.

SDPO Saleem Akhtar Siddiqui said that the victim, a resident of Qasba Colony, was walking to Madni mosque along with his friend Tahir after getting off a bus when he was attacked.

The police officer said that when they reached near Ayesha Manzil, armed men on a motorcycle opened fire on him. The victim received three bullet wounds while his friend remained unhurt in the gun attack.

The police shifted the victim to a nearby private hospital where he succumbed to his wounds.

Later his body was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

The officer said the victim belonged to the Tableeghi Jamaat and came to Madni mosque every Thursday.

The police said that the victim had no affiliation with any political party and the motive of his murder could be personal enmity.  When the victim’s body was taken to his Qasba Colony house, tension gripped the area as shots were fired into the air.
