MARDAN, June 6: A woman and her son were killed when unidentified assailants opened firing on them outside a hotel on Mardan-Malakand road here on Wednesday, police said.

Officials of the city police station quoted Nazir, manager of the hotel, as saying that the victims had booked a room at the hotel on Tuesday evening. He told police they were about to leave the hotel in their car after breakfast when two unidentified motorcyclists opened firing on them, killing both on the spot.

As per the police preliminary investigation, the woman was identified as Saira Haq, 45, and her son Umar Nawab, 28, residents of Fazalabad Mian Kelly tehsil Takht Bhai. The motive behind the killing was stated to be a property dispute.
