KOHAT, May 29: Provincial Minister for Housing Amjid Khan Afridi has said that Rs200 million has been released for providing electricity to several villages located along Rawalpindi road in his constituency.

Speaking at a public meeting in Razgeer Banda here on Tuesday, Mr Afridi said that Rs140 million had been released from the fund of Senator Abbas Khan and Rs60 million from his and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s fund.

He said that with this money 2,500 electricity poles and 350 transformers would be installed in the villages. He said that Rs120 million had also been sanctioned for providing natural gas in the area.

Meanwhile, about 20-hour daily loadshedding has been creating acute water scarcity in KDA Town and some private tanker owners are said to be charging Rs900 per tanker of water.

Since May 17 power breakdown caused by a blaze in the main Kohat grid station, residents of Junglekhel and KDA Town are facing almost 20-hour loadshedding, which has created acute water shortage in the town. Residents have demanded early repair of the grid station.

KDA Town project director told journalists that they had also hired two private tankers and now a total four tankers had been supplying water to the residents free of charge. He said that he had conveyed to the Pesco authorities for decreasing loadshedding so that at least water tanks of the town could be filled. He said that a cell had been established in the town to receive complaints about charging of residents for water supply.

KUST EXAMS: Students of Kohat University of Science and Technology (KUST) have criticised the varsity’s decision to hold final examinations from July 5. They said that the exams were earlier scheduled for the year’s end.

Some girl students of KUST told Dawn on condition of anonymity that their M.A. course was still incomplete and two subjects had not been taught, but the vice chancellor had announced early examinations.

The students of M.A. English said that half of their course was incomplete and it would be injustice with them if examinations were held in July. The administration had informed the students that date sheet for final exams would be issued on June 5.
