Sewerage system of Dadu collapses

DADU, Dec 11: The sewerage system of the Dadu town collapsed on Wednesday as the overflowing drains flooded the roads with sewage.

The sewerage system, comprising underground and open sewage lines, at the Main Chowk, Station Road, Hospital Road, Shahani Mohalla, Gharibabad, Soorajabad, Memonabad, Mazdoorabad, Mallah and adjoining areas has collapsed.

Heaps of the garbage, lying at all the main roads of the town, make the matters worse for the local residents.

People also complained of broken water supply pipelines, because of which they were being supplied water mixed with sewerage effluent.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Mehran Welfare Association, Maula Bakhsh Mastoi, said that he had lodged a complaint at the office of the chief municipal officer about the overflowing sewage drains, but so far nothing had been done in this regard.

The MPA-elect, Marvi Mazharul Haq, also complained about the apathy of the officials of the municipality regarding broken water supply pipelines, which she said had been broken at several places.

She said that the town’s sewerage system had collapsed five days ago but the concerned officials had done nothing so far to redress the situation.

The taluka Nazim, Dadu, Syed Zafar Ali Shah, blamed the clogging of the drains on plastic shopping bags, saying that carelessness on part of the people, for the collapse of the sewerage system.

He said that the sanitary staff were doing their best to improve the situation, adding that the water supply lines would be changed soon.

ACCIDENT: Fifteen persons were injured in a collision between a Sehwan-bound passenger coach (2350) and a truck (QAD-6511) on the Indus Highway near Thebat on Tuesday night.

The injured were later rushed to the taluka hospital, Sehwan.

Both the drivers of the passenger coach and the truck escaped. Thebat police have impounded the vehicles.
