CHARSADDA, May 18: Primary enrollment rate has increased 22.6 per cent in Charsadda schools over the last one year despite unfavourable circumstances.

This was stated by EDO (education) Charsadda Attaullah Khan Miankhel at the inauguration of NCHD Literacy Centre at Chitral Phattak Korona area here the other day.

“Over 38,000 children have enrolled in Charsadda primary schools this year compared to 31,000 children enrolled in these schools last year,” he said.

The EDO said he was hopeful that the primary enrolment rate would increase next year due to the efforts of the education department and NCHD.

“The credit for the achievement goes to the officials of the two departments,” he said.

Mr Attaullah said data of fresh enrolments in private educational institutions was being compiled to ensure that not child remains out of school in Charsadda.

He said of the 43 closed schools in the district, 20 had been reopened, while the rest would be reopened soon.

The EDO said seven of the 15 schools destroyed by militants in Charsadda had been rebuilt and a strategy was being made to rebuild the rest.

He said 15 government schools had been declared English medium for classes beginning from sixth grade.

“Qualified teachers have been appointed to these schools,” he said, adding that 30 government schools had been set up on the pattern of English medium schools in the district from nursery level.

The EDO said compared to other districts, Charsadda saw record development, especially in education sector, over the years.
