KARACHI, Dec 10: The governor of Sindh, who is also the controlling authority of the educational boards in the province, has ordered the appointment of new chairmen for the boards in Karachi and Sukkur.

Official sources said here on Tuesday that Brig Mohammad Shafiullah Qureshi (retired)had been appointed chairman of the Board of Secondary Education, Karachi. Prof Noor Ahmad Kalhoro would take over as new chairman of the Board of Intermediate Secondary education, Sukkur. At present Prof Noor Ahmad is performing as secretary of the Sukkur board.

Regular appointment at the two boards was overdue. Mohammad Aziz Ansari, the sitting chairman at the Karachi board, who reached the age of superannuation a few years back, was allowed to continue on under directives of the controlling authority issued from time to time.

On the other hand, the seat of chairman, which fell vacant some time back, was looked after by an OSD allowed to work as officiating chairman. The new chairmen would assume their respective offices on Dec 16, said an official.

The name of chairman for the Board of Intermediate Education, Karachi, has also been finalized and a notification in this regard would be issued shortly, added the official. At present Prof Mohammad Sharif Memon, who has already reached the age of superannuation, is holding the post, as the controlling authority had granted him extension till Dec 31.

It is further learnt that Prof Sultan Abbas, who reached the age of superannuation in November, has been allowed afresh to continue as chairman of the Hyderabad board for three years.
