KARACHI, April 23: Combined sales of Toyota and Daihatsu brands during the third quarter ended on March 31 stood at 15,002 units as compared to Rs15,084 units.

Production increased by 4.7 per cent to 15,677 units as against 14,969 units.

The board of directors of Indus Motor Company Limited met on Monday to review company’s financial and operating performance for the third quarter ended March 2012.

On year to date basis, combined sales of Toyota and Daihatsu brands (CKD and CBU) went up 3.6 per cent only to 39,343 units as compared to 37,987 units for 2011.

The company’s combined sales revenue for nine months ended March 2012, of the CKD, CBU and parts business stood at Rs53.9 billion.

The IMCL achieved profit after tax of Rs2.9 billion as compared to Rs1.6 billion posted for the same period last year. The IMCL spokesman expects a robust demand for its products.  Absence of a new long-term auto policy to replace the current auto industry development plan that expires in June this year is disconcerting. Tariff rationalisation, unabated influx of used cars import and closure of CNG vehicles production following a ban on CNG kits will dampen growth prospects of the local industry, he added.
