HYDERABAD, April 22: Famous Sindhi vocalist Master Manzoor was found dead in mysterious circumstances in his house in Qasimabad on Sunday. He was 42.

Nasim Nagar police quoted Master Manzoor’s maternal uncle as saying that he had committed suicide. A pistol was found near the body.

His youngest son who was sleeping with him informed his uncle about the suicide, police said.

The SHO of Nasim Nagar police station said only one bullet had been used. A glass of liquor had been found near the body.

He said the deceased’s brother-in-law informed police about the incident but the family did not press for autopsy.

According to the SHO, Master Manzoor’s uncle Manzoor Wadho, a former SHO of Hatri police station, examined the body and confirmed that he had committed suicide. His brother Mushtaq said the same thing.

Police has obtained late Manzoor’s cellphone to examine the record of calls.

According to sources close to the family, Manzoor’s wife Afshan had gone to her parents’ home after a quarrel. He is reported to have gone after her to bring her back but returned alone.

His five children were living with him in the house and his youngest.

He was laid to rest in Wadee-i-Hussain graveyard off Karachi-Hyderabad highway in accordance with his will.

The singer belonged to Qambar-Shahdadkot district. He received his early education in Dadu and graduated from Karachi University in 1997. His father Makhno Faqir was a folk and classical music teacher.

He started signing at an early age and soon gained popularity. He had a large number of audience who eagerly waited for his songs, according to his colleague Zulfiqar Qureshi.

He had several albums, including Sacho Ishq, Naseeb, Dilber Ayo, Sehra (wedding songs), Tuhenjoon Yadoon, Wichore Kha Poe and Dil Jo Dilber.

He shot to fame with his song ‘Harjae pireen har mehfil main mukhe tuhenji kami mehsoos thi thiye’ a few years ago.

According to station director of Radio Pakistan Naseer Mirza, the late singer belonged to a singer’s family and mostly sang lyrics written by Qasir Nawaz, a Shikarpur-based poet.

Popular Sindhi singer Shaman Ali Mirali described Manzoor as a polite and humble person. “His death has left a vacuum in the field of popular Sindhi songs,” he added.
