CHARSADDA, April 7: A policeman was injured when he tried to defuse an improvised explosive device in Shabqadar area here on Saturday. A mosque and a house were also damaged partially in the blast.

Officials said that police got information that an explosive device was planted by unidentified persons near the house of a local, Abaseen. Police rushed to the scene and tried to defuse the explosive device, they added.

They said that all at a sudden the bomb went off with a bang, injuring a police constable Alaf Khan. The injured policeman was taken to district headquarters hospital for treatment. A nearby mosque and house were also damaged in the explosion. The blast was so powerful that it was heard in far-off areas of the district.

Meanwhile, Charsadda TB Association held a function to create awareness among people about the disease in connection with International Health Day.

Haji Faiz Mohammad was chief guest on the occasion while president of the association Advocate Behramand Khan presided over the function. The general secretary of the association, Haji Abdul Salam Arif, was also present on the occasion.

Addressing on the occasion, the speakers said that Pakistan was put on sixth number in the world’s list of tuberculosis. So, they said, all energies should be utilised to curb the disease.
