THE government has imposed a Rs10,000 fine in case if one wants to cancel a duplicate Computerised National Identity Card.

There is no policy to check the issuance of another CNIC. As there is no check and policy, people, most of whom are illiterate, apply for another CNIC instead of lodging an FIR and then going for a duplicate CNIC. Most of the people who have double CNICs are not educated. They do not know the proper procedure.

A Rs10,000 Nadra fine for cancellation of the duplicate CNIC is unfair. In my opinion, if one has to be fined, a penalty of Rs1,000 is enough.

It is my request to the federal and provincial governments to reduce the amount of fine so that those who are not able to get one of their CNICs cancelled could give smaller fee and get their CNIC cancelled.
