RAWALPINDI, March 26: A police official associated with the Flying Squad, whose personnel are deployed on VIP route security duty, was deprived of his motorbike parked outside the heavily-guarded Police Lines, police said.

It was the second such incident within three weeks in which unidentified auto-thieves defied security, slipped into the heavily guarded police installations and took away the motorcycle.

Since the access to the Police Lines is limited to those having security clearance, the authorities assumed that the culprit could be either one of the police officials housing in the Police Lines or one having links with the security guards.

Constable Mohammad Sarfraz said he had parked his brand new motorbike (Honda CD-70) on the premises of the Police Lines. When he returned to the spot, he found the vehicle missing.

He started a search inside the building and inquired from the security guards deployed at the entry gates but failed to find any clue to the bike.

He suffered another shock after he went to the Civil Lines police station to get a case registered when he was advised to 'come through proper channel'.

He was asked to first go to the in-charge of the Police Lines, then to the deputy superintendent of police headquarters, later to the superintendent of police headquarters and then to the city police officer besides getting permission from the DSP and SHO Civil Lines if he wanted to get the FIR of the incident registered.

Earlier, another police official, Matiullah, had also lost his new motorbike from the Police Lines headquarters. It took more than 20 days to get his case registered with the police.

According to police sources, Matiullah was reportedly forced to change the scene of crime and mention some other spot (other than the Police Lines) as it would give a bad name to the police. However, his case was registered on March 24 - 21 days after the incident - after he changed the scene of crime on his complaint.
