QUETTA: Provincial Senior Minister Maulana Wasay asked Home Minister Zafarullah Zehri on Thursday to disclose the names of ministers allegedly involved in the kidnapping for ransom cases at a joint meeting of the cabinet and security agencies.

Speaking on a point of order in the Balochistan Assembly, he urged Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani to call such a meeting.

“I am feeling ashamed at being in the government but failing to do anything to curb the kidnappings in Quetta and other parts of the province,” he said.

“We should not be content with condemning the frequent incidents of abduction for ransom in Quetta, Khuzdar and Qila Abdullah. The people outside the government have the right to condemn the lawlessness while we have the responsibility to curb the growing incidents of kidnapping, theft and robbery.” He said Mr Zehri had publicly stated that he would disclose the names of ministers involved in kidnapping cases if the chief minister allowed him to do so.

Maulana Wasay said the home minister should have exposed those ministers because his statement had put all the cabinet members under suspicion and tainted their reputation.

“Our silence over the statement of the home minister is also raising questions,” he said.

Maulana Wasay said if the names were disclosed and any minister was found guilty of a crime then it would be the responsibility of the chief minister to remove him and send a case to the Election Commission for his disqualification Sardar Aslam Bizenjo, Jaffar Khan Mandokhel, Syed Ehsan Shah, Abdul Khaliq Bashardost, Ismail Gujar, Mir Abdur Rehman Jamali, Ainullah Shams, Shah Nawaz Marri, Zamarak Khan Piralizai and Jai Parkash also expressed concern over increasing incidents of kidnapping for ransom and targeted killings and said the situation in Quetta, Sherani, Nasirabad, Jaffarabad and on highways linking Quetta with Karachi and Chaman was grave.

They criticised police for not taking action against armed men travelling in vehicles with tinted glasses in Quetta’s markets and on highways.

Speaker Mohammad Aslam Bhootani adjourned the session till Saturday.
