RAWALPINDI, March 11: Two police officials being probed for their alleged involvement in several armed robberies revealed on Sunday that two other officials of Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) had been their accomplices.

Five members of the gang including two police officials were arrested by Civil Line police. Usman Aftab was posted at the office of City Police Officer (CPO) while Adeel Ahmed was deployed at Police Recruit training center, Rawat.

The police have launched a hunt for two other CIA officials, Shakeel Ahmed and Noomi, who went into hiding after the arrest of their accomplices.

The gang was arrested as one of the robbery victims, Burhan Afzal, a 4th year student of Foundation Medical College reported to Civil Lines police that he along with two friends was looted by the robbers near Jhanda Chichi. The victims were held hostage and taken to their home by the gunmen. On reaching home, they snatched Rs25,000, a laptop and two mobile phones and later escaped.

Investigation Officer (SI) Muhammad Hussain said that Burhan Afzal was the only robbery victim who lodged complaint and thus, the gang was arrested as the police traced the culprits with the help of the clues given by Mr Burhan. He said many other robberies were never reported to police.

He identified seven members of the gang as Usman Aftab, Adnan Shahzad, Mohsin, Chaudhry Awais, Adeel, Shakeel and Noomi, however the remaining two robbers were not identified.
