KARACHI, March 3: A 45-year-old man was shot dead allegedly by bandits who put up resistance to the armed men who had barged into his home and begun collecting valuables at gunpoint on Saturday, police said.

They said Fazal-ur-Rahman was held hostage with his family members inside his house in Tanoli Colony of Marvi Goth within the remit of the Shah Latif Town police station by four armed men.

“The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday,” said Inspector Amanullah Marwat, the SHO of the Shah Latif Town police station.

“The family of the victim says that a total of four bandits, all carrying pistols, entered the house after breaking the entrance gate lock.

“They held the family hostage and after collecting cash and cellphones asked for the keys to a safe. At that point Fazal- ur-Rahman offered resistance upon which the bandits opened fire on him.”

He suffered a bullet wound in the head and died on the spot, forcing the bandits to leave the house, said the SHO.

The family was unable to tell the mode of transport used by the gunmen, the police added.

“The victim was the father of three and a meat seller. The body has been handed over to the family after medico-legal formalities. We are waiting for the family’s response before registering an FIR,” he added.

Guard dies as gun goes off by ‘accident’ A private security guard deputed at a multi-storey building on I.I. Chundrigarh Road suffered a fatal wound on Monday when his gun went off ‘accidentally’, police said.

They said 37-year-old Imran Yousuf was employed by a private company and was posted on the fifth floor of the Techno City.

His shotgun reportedly went off and he was hit in the chest, the police said.

“He was taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi, where doctors pronounced him dead,” said an official at the Mithadar police station. “The victim was a resident of Mahmoodabad and originally hailed from southern Punjab.

“Apparently it seems that it was an accident, but we are also collecting details from witnesses and other people before reaching any conclusion.”
