NAUSHAHRO FEROZE, Feb 16: The body of a girl branded as kari and buried without offering proper funeral rites by her bother, was exhumed by police in the presence of a team of doctors and a magistrate from a graveyard in Mir Hassan Mari village on Thursday.

According to villagers, Khalida, 18, daughter of Pathan Khan Mari, was sprayed with bullets by her brother Abdullah Mari about a year ago and buried without offering Namaz-i-Janaza.

Deparja police investigated the reports of murder and lodged an FIR on Nov 9, 2011 against the girl's brother and his relatives Ghulam Murtaza Mari and Daim Salim Mari and the SHO submitted an application to the first judicial magistrate of Moro for exhumation of the body.

Dr Naseer Ahmed and other doctors of the six-member team told Dawn that 16 bullets had been pulled out of the body.

SHO Abdul Rahim Khaskheli said the Bugti boy whom Khalida's brother had accused of being a karo had fled to Dubai and Abdullah himself had been on the run. The other accused Ghulam Mustafa Mari and Daim Salim had obtained interim bail, he said.
