KARACHI, Feb 15: An activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was found shot dead in the Manghopir area on Wednesday, police said.

They said that the trussed-up body of 36-year-old Abdul Hafeez, stuffed in a gunny bag, was found in Altaf Nagar within the remit of the Manghopir police station.

They said that the victim was an MQM activist and resident of Orangi Town’s Qazafi Chowk. The police said that the body bore severe torture marks and the hands were bound with rope.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.The police said that the victim was associated with the Unit 131 of the MQM’s organisational structure and was a Karachi Water and Sewerage Board employee. He was unmarried.

They said that he had been kidnapped on Tuesday night and the body was found in the early hours of Wednesday.

The police said that the motive behind the killing could not be ascertained.

A case (FIR 50/12) was registered against unidentified men on a complaint of the victim’s brother at the Manghopir police station.
