HYDERABAD, Feb 11: The centuries old tradition wherein people shared their experience of life and society with others through oral recitation or in local jargon, Sughars, is still being carried out by ideologically conventional lot.

The Sindh Language Authority (SLA) said that the authority in cooperation with the Culture Department has established a Heritage Studio to preserve the works of Sughars or the exponents of oral literary work, Chairperson Dr Fehmida Hussain said.

Efforts were underway to preserve the literary culture in audio and video CDs for future generations to benefit from the folk-fore, she said at a Mach Katchehry (camp fire gathering) at Zafar Kazmi Lawn, Sindh Museum on Saturday.

The katchehry was jointly organised by the Culture Department and the SLA.

The authority is holding such gatherings in different towns to introduce Suhars of each area and this time around Dadu district was chosen for it. Imdad Ali Babbur, Ghulam Mustafa Janwari, Ali Nawaz Solangi, Mohammad Ali Gopang, Bahawal Khan Khushk, Rehmatullah Abbasi and Ahmed Khan Sohag enthralled the audience with poetry, songs and riddles.

Ghulam Shabbir Shahani enchanted the audience by presenting the songs of Ustad Bukhari and Ahmed Khan Madhosh.

Noted writers Qazi Khadim, Ghulam Nabi Mughal, Qalandar Shah Lakyari, Taj Joyo and Imdad Keerio attended the gathering.—Bureau
