LAHORE, Feb 8: Robbers looted cash and a cell phone from a retired army officer and resorted to aerial firing during a thoroughfare robbery in Sundar police limits on Wednesday.

The incident took place when Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Rana Mashhood was also going on an official car.

Sundar police said two armed men stopped Lt-Col Babar Niaz (retired) and his brother, Majid Ali, on Multan Road and tried to loot cash and valuables. As the car riders put up resistance, the suspects opened fire and broke car’s windowpane. Later, they looted Rs12,000 in cash and a cell phone and fled towards nearby fields on foot.

The driver of Mashhood, who was coming from Multan and was behind the two vehicles, applied brakes, turned back the vehicle after witnessing firing and escaped from the scene.

Four robbers barged in the house of Rehan in Defence A police limits and took away cash and valuables worth Rs800,000.

Three robbers stormed into the house of Zubair in Mughalpura police limits and looted cash and valuables worth Rs700,000.

Four gunmen entered the godown of Nasir Butt in Misri Shah and looted valuables worth Rs400,000.
