KOHAT, Jan 29: A security man was killed and a volunteer received injuries on Sunday in the ongoing search operation in Frontier Region of Kohat.

The security forces exchanged fire with militants, hiding in the mountains along gun manufacturing Darra Adamkhel town, on the second day of operation.

Irfanullah, a soldier of Frontier Constabulary, was killed when he put his foot on a landmine while a tribal volunteer Wahid was injured in exchange of fire with militants. The injured was taken to KDA hospital in Kohat.

The skirmishes started in FR Kohat on Saturday last when troops entered the area and came face to face with militants in Jawaki. A security man was injured in that gun battle.

The security forces had been trying since 2007 to take control of FR Kohat from militants. According to local sources, militants enter Kohat from Darra Adamkhel and move between the mountainous areas of Orakzai Agency through unfrequented routes of Tora China area.

"Militants also take shelter in the residential areas of FR Kohat, making it difficult for security forces to target them," sources said.

They said that militants moved into Khyber and South Waziristan agencies from the Thall area of Kohat division and entered Peshawar and southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for carrying out terrorist acts.
