ISLAMABAD, Jan 28: A labourer was tortured to death and another injured by the security staff of Bharia Town over their alleged involvement in theft incidents on Saturday, police said.

Over the incident, Sihala police registered a murder case and arrested security in-charge of Bharia Town Capt (retired) Mohammad Shahbaz Malik and security supervisor Nazeer Ashraf.

The labourers, Mohammad Zohaib and Mohammad Arfaq were the employees of Safari Construction Company which has been carrying out construction work at Bharia Town Phase VII.

According to the injured labourer Mohammad Arfaq, he along with the victim Mohammad Zohaib was sleeping in their tent near Ghora Shah area where the construction work was in progress. Some security guards of the Bharai Town raided their tent and made them hostage at gunpoint.

Later, they were taken to Bharia Town Phase VII and detained in a room. Shortly afterwards the guards began to beat them without assigning any reason. Resultantly, both the labourers sustained injuries. The injured labourer said Mohammad Zohaib, a resident of Ponch, fell on the ground unconscious. The security staff shifted both the injured to hospital for medical assistance, where Zohaib was pronounced dead.

After getting information, Sihala police reached there and took the body in their custody. Later, the police reached the crime scene to arrest the accused but they had fled the area. However, the police arrested security in charge Capt (retired) Mohammad Shahbaz Malik and security supervisor Nazeer Ashraf. — Staff Reporter
