KARACHI, Nov 29: The Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA) has called for the restoration of the 1974 University Act.

Addressing a news conference here on Friday, President of the SPLA, Syed Riaz Ahsen, maintained that under the 1974 Act the universities were being run in an effective manner.

He maintained that through amendments, the representation of teachers had been brought down. He demanded that the decision to privatize educational institutions in the province be withdrawn.

Mr Ahsen called for withdrawal of the decision to form Boards of Governors in the educational institutions.

He demanded reinstatement of teachers and doctors sacked in the Punjab. and said that the association had decided to set up a ‘Jholi Fund’ to collect donations for the financial assistance for retrenched teachers and doctors.

He announced that college teachers in Sindh would hold protest meetings on Dec 2 to press for the acceptance of their demands and for the reinstatement of the sacked teachers and doctors in Punjab province.—APP
