PESHAWAR, Jan 23: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Monday decided to strengthen itself in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by launching an organisational contact drive in all the seven divisions of the province.

The decision was made by the provincial PPP cabinet during a meeting, which provincial president PPP Senator Sardar Ali Khan chaired in Zarbagh area of Nowshera district’s Pabbi tehsil.

In line with the decision, PPP will hold conventions in Kohat on February 1, Bannu February 2, DI Khan February 3, Abbottabad February 4, Mardan February 5, Malakand February 6 and Peshawar February 8.

Office-bearers of PPP district, tehsil, city and union council organisations, women wings, People’s Labour Bureau, Doctors' Wing, Kissan Wing, Students' Wing, Youth Wing, Lawyers' Forum and Minority Wing will attend these conventions.

Noted among those who were in attendance were provincial general secretary PPP Dost Mohammad Khan, secretary information Ayub Shah and secretary finance Haji Mohammad Sharif.

Later, Senator Sardar told reporters that the provincial cabinet of PPP had decided to meet every fortnight.

He said People’s Students Federation (PSF), student wing of PPP, would be re-organised after consultation with its office-bearers.

He said PPP was a popular party and had always come to power with the people’s support. He said the people of the province had great love and respect for PPP founder Zulfikar Bhutto and leader Benazir Bhutto.

Senator Sardar said PPP under the leadership of the co-chairman, President Asif Zardari, and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and other leaders under the vision of Mr Bhutto and Ms Benazir were forwarding the struggle for the constitutional, political and democratic rights of people.

He said the appearance of the prime minister in Supreme Court clearly showed that PPP had a great regard for judiciary.

He said in the next general elections, PPP would again get overwhelming majority and that ideological workers would be fielded under an organised strategy.

Senator Sardar said PPP had roots in the people, while workers were its great asset.

He said PPP was the champion of peace and had rendered great sacrifices for democracy.

He said the current democratic system was saved by Ms Benazir’s assassination.

He said the country needed a peaceful democratic revolution already ushered in.

He said Mr Bhutto preferred death to compromising principles, while PPP workers faced punishments for restoration of democracy in the country. — APP
