ATTOCK, Dec 30: As many as 14 candidates including a woman filed nomination papers to contest by-election scheduled to be held on February 6 on the recently-vacated Provincial Assembly seat PP-18 Attock-IV.

The seat fell vacant after PPP MPA Khurram Ali Khan resigned to join Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI).

As per sources of Assistant Election Commissioner office, out of total of 14 aspirants five belong to PPP, two to PML-N and seven are independents.

Five PPP candidates who filed their nominations are former district naib nazim Malik Mohammad Sameen Khan, Amna Khalid of Kamrial village, Atta Mustafa Jameel, Malik Arshad Nawaz and Afzal Hussain.

Two PML-N candidates are Malik Mohammad Azam of Kot Fateh Khan and Malik Mohammad Ali. Seven independent aspirants are Malik Amanat Khan, Mohammad Ashraf, Zubair Khan, Mohammad Saleem, Shehzad Iqbal Bhatti, Bashir Ahmed and Mohammad Aslam Sheikh.

Hustle and bustle was witnessed at the election office on Friday as the candidates had arrived along with a large number of supporters for filling nominations.

Malik Mohammad Azam of PML-N and Malik Amanat Khan of 'Major group' came there in separate processions to demonstrate their show of strength.

After completion of nominations filling process, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) would scrutinise the papers on January 2, while the last date for filing appeals against the nomination is January 6.

The last date for withdrawal of candidature is January 12 after which the final list will be displayed on January 13.
