LAHORE, Nov 24: Governor Khalid Maqbool presided over the last meeting of his cabinet here at the Governor’s House on Sunday.

The cabinet approved an already-promulgated ordinance regarding the charter of degree to the Kinnaird College and establishment of new universities in Faisalabad and Sargodha.

It decided to earmark 6,000 kanals of land situated between Raiwind and Multan roads for the establishment of medical city and education town.

It also reviewed recommendations of a special committee and approved purchase of two tracts of Multan Road land spread over 7,000 acres, 1,800 kanals owned by the Punjab Cooperative Board for Liquidation and acquisition of 1,000-kanal private land.

Speaking on the occasion, the governor said the provincial government had implemented the seven-point agenda of President Gen Pervez Musharraf and appreciated the performance of his ministers.

He congratulated the ministers for “introducing corruption-free culture.”

Earlier, ministers Akhtar Saeed, Prof Mahmood Ahmad, Muhammad Tariq, Hamid Saeed Akhtar, Tariq Hameed, Khurshid Zaman Qureshi, Rana Ejaz Ahmad, Dr Mufti Ghulam Sarwar and Malik Muhammad Alsam spoke and presented an overview of the “reforms” introduced in their respective departments.

The governor said the World Bank had pledged to continue annual $300 to 500 million aid to the Punjab government under the Provincial Resource Management Programme which the future government would utilize for the continuation of institutional reforms.
