KARACHI, Dec 29: A truck driver was shot dead in Dadabhoy Town within the remit of the Baloch Colony police station on Thursday.

Police said the victim, 45-year-old Gulbadin, a resident of Kashmir Plaza, Jamshed Town, was driving his truck loaded with sandstone when he received a call on his cellphone.

The caller directed him to unload the sandstone near the street where a CNG pump was located in the town. As he drove up to the place, someone shot him and fled, they said.

The police shifted the victim to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he was pronounced dead.

After tracing the cellphone data and questioning the victim's family members, the police identified the suspect.

SHO Aslam Khakrani said the victim had a dispute with the suspect over a piece of land in Swat and they had been quarrelling with each other for some time.

The victim was the father of three and hailed from Swat, he added.

In a similar incident, a man was shot dead and his brother wounded within the remit of the Surjani police station.

The two brothers, 30-year-old Abbas and Khan Mola, sons of Ameer Jan, were unloading reti-bajri from a truck in Sector 10/1 of Surjani Town when they were attacked. The assailants fled the scene after the shooting.

Police shifted the victims to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where Abbas succumbed to his wounds during treatment.

The police said the victims were residents of Saeed Marri Goth, Surjani Town. They said the victims' family was not cooperating with police in the investigation.

Later, the body was handed over to the family. No case was registered till late in the night.

Kidnapped baby boy recovered

The 10-month-old baby boy who had been kidnapped a few days ago in a Gulistan-i-Jauhar area was recovered in a raid in Machhar Colony on Thursday morning, the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) said.

According to the CPLC statement, Abdullah, son of Mohammad Fayyaz, was allegedly kidnapped by the watchman, Lal Karim, of the apartment building on Dec 25.

The case was reported to the Sharea Faisal police, who launched a probe.

With the assistance of capital city police officer of Peshawar, Lal Karim was arrested by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police in the Kohat Tunnel on Dec 28 when he was going to Mardan, the CPLC said.

The suspect was brought to Karachi and during interrogation he revealed that his brother Zubair Shah had handed over the child to a woman.

The police and CPLC officials raided a place in Machhar Colony on Thursday and recovered the baby, they added.

The alleged kidnappers had planned to make a ransom call from Mardan, they said.
