HEC programme starts

ISLAMABAD, Dec 28: In order to enhance teaching abilities of the faculty members of the universities, 17th Master Trainers Faculty Professional Development Programme (MT-FPDP) under Higher Education Commission (HEC) kicked off on Wednesday.

As many as 27 faculty members from 16 public sector universities from across Pakistan are participating in the training programme.

Managing Director, Quality Assurance Agency, HEC Dr Khawaja Azam Ali, was the chief guest of the opening ceremony. The main objective of the training is to enrich the teaching abilities of the faculty members to ensure quality education to the students.

The programme has specifically been designed for in-service teachers and will cover 11 core modules and additional sessions on different important social topics. So far, 469 faculty members of the higher education institutions have benefited from MT-FPDP in 16 batches. The programme will continue till Feb 25, 2012. — A Reporter

Three PR officials booked

RAWALPINDI, Dec 28: Three officials of Pakistan Railways (PR) reservation office were booked on charges of embezzling ‘travel vouchers’ issued to police officials, official source said.

Besides three officials of reservation office, two lady clerks – one posted at Rawalpindi reservation office and the other associated with Karachi reservation office would be investigated by the Railway police in connection with the embezzlement case.

The case was registered after the three railway officials – Mushtaq Ahmed, Mohammad Saddique and Mohammad Haroon were found guilty in the top-level inquiry launched after reports that hundreds of travel vouchers valuing Rs299,000 issued to Sindh police officials were found missing.

After the reports, Commercial Manager Railways Fazal Nabi carried out a surprise raid and seized the relevant office record and later launched an inquiry which found the three officials guilty.

Malik Mohammad Zamurd, inspector Railway police confirmed that a case was registered against the three railway officials; however, none of them was arrested so far.— Staff Reporter
