LARKANA, Nov 24: An inquiry has been ordered into the misappropriation of the school management committees’ funds of of Mirokhan taluka.
The inquiry was ordered by the Larkana district Nazim, Khursheed Junejo.
The chairman, education committee of the district council, Larkana, Amir Bakhsh Gaad, who heads the inquiry, alleged on Sunday that the assistant district officer (ADO), elementary education, had siphoned off 20 per cent to 40 per cent of the school management committees’ funds.
Gaad said that the school management committees in Mirokhan sub-division were given funds amounting to Rs4.8 million.
He said that the teachers and the administration staff, in their separate statements, had confirmed that the ADO (education) had embezzled funds by influencing headmasters and supervizors concerned.
The district Nazim, he said, had visited Mirokhan taluka in this connection and had ordered the inquiry after meeting with teachers.
According to the initial findings, Gaad said, the ADO (education) had also been involved in drawing salaries of ghost teachers.
The head clerk, in his statement before the inquiry committee, had accused the ADO (education) of paying the ghost teacher only half the salaries and siphoning off the other half of the salaries, he said.
The ADO (education) had been accused of pocketing the salaries of around 100 ghost teachers, Gaad disclosed.
He said that the district government would soon expand the scope of the inquiry into the school management committees’ funds to all over the district.
KILLED: A man, Zamir Hussain Hulio, was shot dead and three received bullet injures in a clash between two groups here on Friday night.
The injured, Aijaz Hulio, Gulsher Kalhoro and Ashiq Ali, were admitted to the Chandka Medical College Hospital.
The clash was caused by a dispute over occupying a seat in a hotel in Kausar Mills area.
The Hyderi police arrested some men to control the situation.
Debate: An inter-collegiate debate competition was held here the other day to mark the 44th birth anniversary of the late Mir Shahnawaz Bhutto.
The competition, presided over by Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, was held under the aegis of Mir Shahnawaz Bhutto Literary Organization.
Students from 12 colleges participated in the debate, which was held in Urdu, English and Sindhi languages.
Speaking on the occasion, Khuhro said that late Shahnawaz symbolised the epitome of struggle and commitment, adding that he had not only been blocked from returning to Pakistan but had also been killed in exile.
Terming the memory of late Shahnawaz a source of inspiration for the youth, khuhro urged the organisers to arrange separate debates in Sindhi, Urdu and English to provide a better opportunity for the youth to express their views in all the three languages.
The district Nazim, Khursheed Junejo, also the organiser of the event, also spoke on the occasion.
