LAHORE, Dec 26: Punjab University political science (part-I) annual examination for 2011 female candidates on Monday staged a protest demonstration in front of the Lahore Press Club against, what they claim, that they were declared fail in Ideology paper.

The candidates were holding banners and placards and chanting slogans against the varsity administration, which admitted mistakes by examiner, but refused to rectify it.

The protesters told media persons that they had applied for re-checking of their Ideology paper and the varsity informed them that the examiner had committed mistakes while marking the answer scripts. The varsity administration also informed the candidates that it had black-listed the examiner but could not rectify the results. The officials said the university rules and regulations did not allow re-evaluation of answer scripts.

The candidates demanded that the Punjab chief minister and vice-chancellor intervene and rectify their results as they were not at fault. They demanded that the university give them grace marks and declare them as pass. “We will resort to more protests, if our demands are not met,” one of the candidates said.

When contacted, PU Controller of Examination Prof Dr Liaquat Ali said the examination department was not responsible for the mistake but the PU Board of Studies in political science.
