KOHAT, Dec 26: Six alleged fake patwaris , arrested by anti-corruption department, were sent to jail when a local court rejected their bail application here on Monday.

All the six accused, who were working at the revenue office in Garhi Mawaz Khan, were arrested on Thursday last. The anti-corruption officials had seized all land record, recovered from their possession.

Sources said that no officially appointed patwari was present and only young trainees were working at the revenue office when officials of anti-corruption department raided it. They said that the raid was conducted because patwaris remained absent form the office and did not attend the complaints of people. The people, who wanted to transfer their land, had to visit the office for months to meet the patwaris , sources added. However, the provincial association of patwaris on Sunday claimed at a press conference that the arrested persons were their colleagues. It alleged that the anti-corruption inspector was also a property dealer and had personal grudge against the arrested persons.

The patwaris were later handed over to investigation department of police on a one-day remand. On Monday, they were presented before a court that cancelled their bail applications and sent them to district prison. —Correspondent
