LAHORE, Dec 25: A 25-year-old welder was burned alive and a shop owner suffered burns in a fire in a foam shop on Peco Road on Sunday, firefighters said. The fire also engulfed an adjacent paint shop.

Liaqatabad police said Nasir Bhatti, who works as welder, was in the basement of a shop of Irfan when sparks from welding caused the fire which also engulfed Nasir.

Irfan and others tried to extinguish fire but in vain. Rescuers arrived at the scene and extinguish the fire after one-and-half hours.

Nasir was shifted to the Lahore General Hospital where he succumbed to his burns.

Police handed over the body of Nasir to his father, Faqeer Husain of Kot Lakhpat.

In another incident, a 55-year-old man died of burns he suffered at his home in Mehmood Booti on Sunday.

Police said Pyara Masih, father of five, went to the bed with a live cigarette. His blanket caught fire.

His screams alerted other family members who struggled with the flames and shifted him to a near-by hospital where he died.

Suicide: Two women died by suicide on Sunday.

Kot Lakhpat police said 40-year-old Nusrat swallowed poisonous pills at home behind the Lahore General Hospital.

Raiwind City police said 18-year-old Zubaida took poisonous pills in a Raiwind city. Police handed over the bodies to their families without autopsies.

FOUND MURDERED: Harbanspura police found the body of a 40-year-old woman in the city canal and shifted it to morgue for autopsy on Sunday.

Police said the woman, not yet identified, was apparently murdered as investigators found marks of bruises on the body.

ACCIDENT: A 35-year-old died after being struck by a truck in Nawab Town on Sunday.

Nawab Town police said the driver fled the scene. Police shifted the body to the Jinnah Hospital’s morgue for legal formalities.

ROBBERY: Five robbers barged into Khan Super Store on Shalimar Link Road in Mughalpura police limits, held owner and staff at gunpoint and took away Rs200,000, cell phones and other valuables.
