DERA GHAZI KHAN, Dec 24: Four prisoners sustained injuries during their violent protest against the administration of Central Jail here on Saturday as police fired teargas shells to control the situation.

Police said prisoners of the overcrowded jail staged a demonstration against the jail administration and refused to go back to barracks after daily routine walk and climbed up the jail roof.

The administration sought police help which took two hours to tame the protesters. The teargas shelling left four prisoner injured.

Jail Superintendent Syed Babar Ali told newsmen that captives confined to barrack 5 had initiated the protest as they wanted some unauthorised facilities from the administration.

District police officer Malik Tassaduq Hiyat said the prisoners of barracks 5 and 6 were on strike. He said police restored the law and order inside the jail by taking a strong action.

It was the third incident of prisoners’ unrest in the Dera central jail during the last six months.
